I read the reviews and nearly decided to purchase some higher dollar stands (twice as much as these), I am glad I took a chance.
If you have modern smaller size speakers to mount, these are PERFECT. If you have some 1980's 12" x 12" wood grain speaker you want to use for your 5.1/7.1 sound... forget about it.
These are all metal, except for the mounting head brackets (tops are plastic), the bases are large enough to create good weight distribution, they have an additional weight (3/4 lbs?) under the base. Contrary to popular belief I placed them on carpet and my speakers are very stable at a 38" height. They hide your speaker wiring very well.
For some kind of reference, I have a 5.1 Channel Smart Home Theater System (HT-E5400), the surround sound speakers are about 4" x 4" x 6". The are a perfect match for these stands.
